A jointly issued regulation by the EPA and the Dept of Housing and Urban Development underscores the former's emphasis on disseminating information on lead poisoning. Issued in Mar 1996, the rule requires disclosure by sellers, landlords and their agents to tenants and renters of the hazards posed by lead-based paint as homes are sold or rented. A federal pamphlet called 'Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home' offers pointers on identifying and avoiding these hazards, while a hotline over (800) 424-LEAD will arm parents with valuable information that will help them shield their children from lead poisoning.
