Bertha Gambrel Whicker was just "a hillbilly" from eastern Kentucky when she and her sister, Hattie, came to Evansville during World War II. The Gambrel sister were riveters on P-47 wings, then welders at the Evansville Shipyard.
Hattie passed away recently, but Bertha will be on hand at 7 p.m. Tuesday for an LST 325 anniversary party and "Rosie the Riveter" performance at the Evansville Museum.See the full content of this document
