Summary

Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is widely used by those in the Six Sigma community, particularly when they are analyzing the results of designed experiments. Unfortunately, when Black Belts (BBs) analyze the results, they sometimes neglect to identify important characteristics because they concentrate on the p-values instead of the individual pieces of information in the table. When explaining the ANOVA table to individuals who have either not seen one before or may not have not seen one in a long time, Master Black Belts (MBBs) may experience some difficulties. In such situations, they can use the Pac-man video game to explain how to correctly read an ANOVA table. MBBs searching for a unique way to explain a somewhat abstract mathematical concept may find the Pac-Man analogy a useful teaching tool that can even be extended to more complicated experimental designs without any loss of generality.
