[Saeed Shafa] gave birth to the Tiburon International Film Festival in 2002 in an effort to give moviegoers a chance to learn more about other cultures. That first festival showcased 82 cinematic creations from around the world. This year, from March 12-18, the 3rd Annual Tiburon International Film Festival will feature 240 independent films. My, how Shafa's little darling has grown.

Even though the festival has expanded, Shafa remains dedicated to its original motto: Understanding the World Through Film. This year's festival includes films from 50 different countries. In his continuing efforts to explore the many regions of the world through cinema, Shafa will offer--for the first time--a Marin Filmmakers screening session to show moviegoers what's going on right in our own community.

"It's kind of like the everyman's sport--especially in England," he continues. "Ben Affleck has been trying to develop a darts film for four or five years now and just can't get it off the ground."
