Summary
MAPS OF STATES ARE WONDERFULLY COMPLICATED, with panhandles, rugged coastlines and seemingly arbitrary borders. And there's none more curious than the western edge of Virginia. It looks as though an earthquake has ripped out a gigantic chunk of land, leaving a brutally jagged, sawlike edge.
