Ossie Davis Play and the Answer to Racism: A Black History Celebration

Summary

A performance event, free to the public, "The People of Clarendon County - A Play by Ossie Davis & the Answer to Racism," will take place Saturday, January 31st, 4pm, at St. John's Baptist Church, 448 West 152nd Street (bet. Amsterdam and St. Nicholas). Sponsored by the Big Brothers of the church, it is based on the new book edited by journalist Alice Bernstein in which this play by the beloved actor and activist Ossie Davis is published. Mrs. Bernstein will tell of conversations with Davis in 2004, leading to her "unearthing" of his 1955 Civil Rights play, and his encouragement to have it published with essays on the education that can end racism: Aesthetic Realism, founded by the American philosopher Eli Siegel.
