I recognize that I do not know the whole story, but the only appropriate response to the teacher's letter is: "I'm sorry. We made a mistake. How can I make it better?" This would have been an opportunity to ask if there was any way she could help you avoid such situations in the future.

The tone of the letter doesn't matter. The excuse that the organizer dropped the ball doesn't matter. That you printed a list the following week and that you do cover academic achievements doesn't matter.

What matters is that her concern is not addressed respectfully. In this climate of teacher-b...
