For more than a year, when David Houchins took his morning stroll past the churches of New Harmony, Ind., he could count on one thing: Every Sunday, he'd be greeted warmly by the parishioners of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on their way to Mass and would get at least a couple of invitations to join them in worship.
