LAST WEEK, after a secret presidential search that excluded faculty, students and the public, the Norfolk State University board announced its unanimous pick to lead the school of 7,000 students: Tony Atwater.
The new president, slated to start July 1, has credentials. As former president of Indiana University of Pennsylvania for five years, Atwater is credited with increasing fundraising, enrollment and diversity there.
