NRLC Memo Critiquing Biased JAMA Paper on Fetal Pain.
The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), in its August 2431, 2005, edition, published a paper titled "Fetal Pain: A Systematic Multidisciplinary Review of the Evidence." This paper was presented as an objective review of existing scientific literature bearing on the question of whether the human fetus can perceive pain. The paper concluded that there is not good evidence for fetal pain before 29 or 30 weeks gestational age (i.e., during the seventh month). This conclusion was widely covered by the mainstream news media, including ABC News, CNN, Fox News Network, the Associated Press, Reuters, and the New York Times.
