HOMELAND SECURITY MISSION - Among the stops on Northbrook Fire Chief [Jay Reardon]'s homeland security mission to Israel earlier this month was with members of the IDF Border Police in Northern Israel. Reardon told the Jewish Star be and his group learned how Israelis "have put in place things that have actually stopped terrorist attacks."

"What they may not realize is that you can spend millions after the fact [of an attack], but the average citizen is the first 'preventer'. It's important to be aware, and when things just don't look right, it's worth a phone call."
