Summary
It is that time of year again, when the risk management community comes together to discuss its trade, its goals and its challenges at the annual RIMS conference and exhibition. This year, we find ourselves in Philadelphia. Increasingly, the risk managers I talk to speak of a shift in their discipline, where avoiding risk is beginning to play second fiddle to taking risk intelligently, thereby making risk management a part of a firm's means of production. If anywhere is an appropriate place to consider such matters, it is here, in the city that has seen more loss than it deserves, but has never turned its back on those with the courage to try for the brass ring anyway.
