Hope Gamble, Newark Arena project coordinator, is in awe of what she refers to as "her kids." Through their first athletic program, "Newark. Hockey & Me," held at the Ironbound Ring has two youth teams called "The Newark Americans," for ages 6 to 10 and 11 to 14. As part of the National Hockey League's Diversity Team Program, the program is open to all children in Newark. In another program, Devils staff bring a model of the arena to libraries for a week.

It's Official: Newark Becomes a Viable Place for Professional Hockey

The countdown has begun. On October 8, 2007, 17,500 fans will fill the seals of the Newark Arena in downtown Newark to see the New Jersey Devils hockey team play their first game in their new home.
