Summary
Being "the vegan" is not always easy, says [Colleen Patrick-Goudreau] in a recent phone interview. "I hear from vegans who have kind of stayed in the closet, because they'd encountered hostilities." She wants to encourage vegans to "help people see a different perspective. Have a dialogue, so we don't continue this dichotomy that tends to be created in our society - 'vegan good, non-vegetarian bad.' I think non-vegetarians assume there's a judgment on them because they're not vegan."
That said, she doesn't think people do well when they get "hooked on the form." Take cheese: "People get really attached to cheese," she notes. Instead of telling new vegans which non-dairy cheeses taste the best, she teaches them to think about what they're really craving. "It's most likely that you are craving fat and salt."See the full content of this document
