The Miles Conrad Award is presented in memory of NFAIS's first president and one of its founders, G. Miles Conrad. This year's Miles Conrad Lecturer was Lynne Brindley, CEO of The British Library. Brindley, the first woman and the first information professional to hold the post, was appointed a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2008 for her service to education. She then identified the following six issues that are challenging libraries today: 1. e-science and e-research, 2. Web 2.0 and 3.0, 3. ensuring rich digital content provision, 4. information literacy for the 21st century, 5. digital preservation and long-term access, and 6. inspiring physical spaces.
