These comments became cannon fodder for several days and put the longtime civil rights leader in yet another predicament because of "off the record" comments.

While Jackson's phraseology could have been more delicate, the basis of his comments was not meant to be venal in any manner. In fact, Jackson was right in his assessment that Black candidates, or Black folks for that matter, should not castigate "the race" in open forums and to cater to non-Blacks.
