"The lights are low, the students are relaxed, breathing slowly and regularly, concentrating on the music," wrote the reporter. At the periphery of the group, the teacher reads off a list of foreign vocabulary words and their translations using a tonevarying voice lilting in time with the music. "The idea is that with the students' muscles relaxed and their brains relieved of stress, the material will flow effortlessly into their memories."

Despite its labeling as "pseudoscience" by the majority of credible psychologists worldwide, [John Self] proclaimed Suggestopedia could be the solution to Proposition 13's draining of school funds, as kids "could complete a 10 month school year in two months." (To which [Linda Xiques] pondered the effects of having a society filled with 10 million high school graduates, age 10.)

"I'm drawing a complete blank on Suggestopedia," replied Xiques, straining to recall the story. "I can't believe I ever wrote on it!"
