Summary
The "American Idol" concept doesn't transfer to rock music, because rock is supposed to have integrity "American Idol" knows it's only glorified karaoke, but "Rock Star: Supernova" (Wednesday, 7 p.m., CBS) claims to be searching for a singer who can shout at the devil the way a real rocker should.
There's nothing "real" about the new season. In fact, the series couldn't be more bogus if it tried. Let's start with the name of the band that our contestants are seeking to join: "Supernova." Is that not the lamest possible attempt to sound, uh, big and explosive? And is the band's drummer, Tommy Lee, not the worst showbiz poseur who ever pretended to be a degenerate rocker? With his stringy hair and grizzled beard, [Stacy Keach] certainly looks the part. He also has a nice way with Old Western lines like "We ride at first light." [Patrick Duffy], however, is hilariously miscast. Yes, he's got the 10-gallon hat, the bandana and the squint. But you fall out of your seat laughing when he tries to hiss his tough-guy dialogue. "There are ways of killin' a man," he squeaks, "that don't break no laws."See the full content of this document
