Michael Jackson

Summary

First the superlatives: [Michael Jackson] was without question one of the greatest, if not the greatest, entertainer of his time. There has never been, and probably never will be again an entertainer of such undeniable talent and charisma, A talent that included the writing and production of music, an ability to broaden the scale of the stage coupled with an imagination for visual special effects that were extraordinary. Align all of that with a voice, singing style and dance movements that can be imitated but not ever duplicated.

A self hatred that made him loathe the color of his skin, mutilate his eyes, his nose, his chin. A self hatred so bottomless and pervasive he did not want his children to look as he did as a child and wanted us to believe he produced com-pletely white children with blond hair. Nor did he want a wife the color of his mother or sister or any other woman of color. Are we really going to pretend we don't know what that was about?

I truly hope that Rev. [Al Sharpton] is right when he savs Jackson was doing what he did to spread our culture. But I think the gooa reverend is wrong in his summation. Speaking of Rev. Sharpton, how compassionate do you think he would be if it had been Clarence Thomas who had died?
