Some of MeadWestvaco's education work has included providing mentors for students at Summerville Elementary School, hosting a WISE (Workplace InStitute for Educators) conference during the summer, serving among the lead sponsors of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Science Education Program, and working with Charleston County's Schools-to-Careers Program by hosting students and teachers at the Charleston Technical Center and introducing them to the potential of careers in science. In all, MeadWestvaco has donated more than $700,000 to social, cultural, and environmental programs each year, including contributions to Trident United Way, Keep North Charleston Beautiful, Charleston Southern University, Berkeley County Kids Who Care About the Environment, Berkeley Museum, Coastal Carolina Council for Boy Scouts, Friends of the Edisto, the S.C. Forestry Foundation, the S.C. Wildlife Federation, and the Walking Park at Colleton Medical Center, just to name a few.
