Summary
Sen, John McCain repeated his call for a three-month suspension of the gas tax during a campaign stop in Phoenix May 5, the same day he unveiled his Spanish-language Web site. McCain said his "gas-tax holiday" would give some relief to consumers during the holiday travel months. Suspending the tax would reduce the price of a gallon of regular gas by 18 cents and a gallon of diesel by 24 cents.
"Finally on the now very famous gas tax holiday, again I find people who are the wealthiest, who are most dismissive of a plan to give low income Americans a little bit of a holiday for three months so that they'll have something a little more to give to their children and enjoy their summer a little more," McCain said during a press conference at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. "So let's give them a little relief - maybe not build a bridge to nowhere, maybe not build one of the Bureau projects, which seemed to take priority over much-needed projects - and give them a break ... We can take the funds out of general revenues and, meanwhile, give the American people a little relaxation from a onerous tax that they're paying."See the full content of this document
