A volunteer Catholic lay minister at St. Mary's Medical Center has been relieved of his duties because of his public opposition to plans to raze the on-campus chapel.

Tim Alexander, who has spoken out against plans to tear down the 50-year-old chapel and replace it with a for-profit heart institute, was told Friday his services would not be needed at Monday morning's Mass.
