Summary

A key GLI experience for Mr. [TODD JACOBS] was an "eye-opening" session about the separation of church and state led by retired Federal Judge Bruce J. Einhorn. "I'd neglected this issue, but it's the core of what America's about, and if s important that we preserve it." Overall, "GLI helped teach me the process by which we have a voice - how, when you think something's not OK, you can fight it in a place where legislation is made. For me, GLI is a spark that will light a flame to take on leadership roles for the rest of my life. Part of that is being a role model for other young people to get involved and stand up for what you believe in. I think there's a young generation that's hungry to be active in our political system and in philanthropy." The Glass Leadership Institute and Shana Amy Glass National Leadership Conference are made possible through the generous support of Shirley and the late Sherwin Glass of Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. [PERRY MEYERS], 33, a financial advisor for Lincoln Financial Advisors in Chicago, heard about GLI at just the right moment. "I had always had strong political opinions, but hadn't acted on them," he says. "At this point in my life, I felt it was important to get involved in Jewish issues, and to learn about them at the same time. Unlike some other Jewish organizations, ADL offered both." Once Mr. Meyers started attending Glass meetings, he was impressed with the participants and speakers, and stimulated by everything he heard. "It's an introduction to ADL. At the same time, it leaves it wide open for you to be involved with ADL in the future without any pressure. I learned a tremendous amount and enjoyed doing it." One session, about how ADL investigative researchers gather information about extremists and share it with law enforcement, particularly captured Mr. Meyers' imagination. The next day he contacted the presenting researcher to offer his assistance. Now that he's a GLI graduate, Mr. Meyers has signed up to co-chair the next GLI in his area. "ADL is as positive an organization as I can think of. I definitely see myself staying involved with ADL and trying to be as active as I can."
