While most banks commonly report abandoned property to the state, they forget to check whether the states is holding property that belongs to them. It maybe that most banks are unaware that money belonging to them has gone stray, or they simply do not know where to look. The good news is that, with more and more states using the Internet to list unclaimed or abandoned property, it is relatively easy to kook and see whether there is no money or other property waiting to be retrieved. Most states advertise annually in a local newspaper and all have searchable databases for the abandoned property reported. The growth of the Internet and the willingness of states to provide online listings has made searching for unclaimed property relatively easy. There is simply no good reason not to search for unclaimed property. The time to search and submit a claim is nominal, at best.
