Jane Fisk's father, George Klemann, was a banker in the trust department at Citizens National Bank, which in 1937 was housed in a skinny skyscraper at Fourth and Main streets.

As the flood worsened, he answered the call for able-bodied men to help local lumberyards build boats, to go along with surf boats and cruisers brought in by the Coast Guard.
