Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Thomas "Tip" O'Neill once remarked, "All politics is local." While this maxim of politics might have been accurate during O'Neill's era, he made this famous remark decades before the Internet and long before the 24-hour news cycle. As with the Republican takeover of the House and Senate in 1994, November's sweep by the Democrats showed how O'Neill's adage sometimes proves obsolete.
