LANSING - About 40 members of the Michigan Peace Team (MPT) stormed into Senator [Carl Levin]'s office here on May 21, 2004, demanding an afternoon phone call or meeting with Senator Levin. The aim was to get the senior senator from Michigan to oppose in the strongest terms Israel's onslaught on Rafah in southern Gaza.
An MPT spokesperson told Senator Levin's interns that "U.S. military equipment is being used in ways that are certainly not defensive as required by U.S. law, and the massacre of noncombatants and widespread home demolitions are war crimes." Father Peter Doherty added, "Israel's actions are furthering the hatred of the United States that led to September 11, 2001, as is the war in Iraq, which is conducted with Israeli support and cooperation and at the behest of many of Israel's U.S. supporters."See the full content of this document
