SuccessFactors may be shooting itself in the foot with its lawsuit against rival HR software firm Softscape, according to an industry analyst. Christa Degnan Manning, an analyst at advisory firm AMR Research, says the suit, which centers on a Softscape PowerPoint presentation critical of SuccessFactors, may be drawing attention to potential truths even as it provides publicity to a lesser-known competitor. The big deal that SuccessFactors has made of this may have backfired, Degnan Manning says. The legal tussle is between competitors in the fast-growing market for talent management software. SuccessFactors and Softscape sell tools for such key HR tasks as employee performance and compensation management.
