It's time to begin firing up our lawn mowers. The perpetual battle to keep turfgrass under control is beginning again, whether we're ready for it or not.

Take some time to get your equipment ready. Take your mower's blade off and get it sharpened. A dull blade will tear your turfgrass blades, leaving ragged edges that will give your lawn a brownish cast. Homeowners with an average-sized lot should have their blades sharpened at least a couple of times during the growing season; people with larger or more rugged lawns will need to sharpen the blades more often. Most lawn equipment dealers can sharpen your mower blades.
