Kodak saves $2 million with consolidated billing system.

Summary

Eastman Kodak saves over $2 million per year in invoicing costs with a network based on 2 SparcServer 490 servers by Sun Microsystems Inc that connect to eight Sun workstations and over 100 microcomputers. The system unifies information on various proprietary hardware platforms such as IBM mainframes and DEC VAX minicomputers that have long been in use in the company. The network is connected through Ethernet and Sun NFS networking software and uses the Oracle Corp relational database management system (RDBMS). The system generates invoices in 24 hours, and the company can then receive payments faster. The system also consolidates invoice mailings so that all invoices going to the same company are sent in the same envelope. It has cut the total number of envelopes used per day from 30,000 to 6,000 and delivers a savings of 80 percent in postage costs. The system also contributes to effective targeted mailings.
