Knives From Leatherman, Sigarms, Taylor Gerber &Amp; Boker

Cops use knives somewhat differently than the average person. So a police knife review will include issues in addition to the blade profile and type of steel. When a police officer needs a knife, his other hand will almost certainly be occupied doing something else...blocking, grasping, pushing, punching, whatever. So a police knife must be accessible using only one hand. This means the police knife must have a pocket clip so it isn't necessary to waste time digging into a pocket to find it.

A second point of evaluation is blade opening, which again must be singlehanded and easy. If both hands are needed to open the blade or if the blade is difficult to open, a pocket clip is useless.

Once the blade is open, other factors come into play, including lockup and ease of closing. Many knives today are liner locks. If a liner lock is too far over, there is a chance that it will bow when pressure is applied to the blade because the lock has too much of a curve, thus compromising lockup. T...
