Summary
Noma mapped an uncharted region of the S. pombe genome and published the results in Science.1 It was a significant feat for a fledgling postdoc. Noma went on to further describe genome dynamics in the heterochromatin domain of the yeast genome,2 and he discovered that a highly conserved protein complex played a role in yeast chromosome organization.3 Noma grew into an expert yeast geneticist.
