"We have orchestra strings on the new album. We have the Detroit Symphony Orchestra playing on the album. We have a lot of acoustic piano," [Kem] said by phone from his home in Detroit. "I'm pleased with the direction the album's taking."

The single "I Can't Stop Loving You" from "Kern Album II," was named No. 1 Adult R&B Record of 2005 by both Radio & Records and Billboard. Radio & Records also named Kem the No. 2 R&B artist for 2005. His consecutive four-week streak at No. 1 for urban radio made him one of the highest charted artists of 2005.

In addition, Item's musical talent has been solicited by many filmmakers. He wrote and performed "Tonight" for the soundtrack of the Tyler Perry movie "Madea's Family Reunion," and remade Nat King Cole's "Fascination" for the dance flick "Take the Lead" starring Antonio Banderas.
