Forget worrying about growth spurts, acne, peer pressure, sex and drugs, juvenile diabetes has now taken over the scene. Please, don't let the name fool you; juvenile diabetes is far more than just childish disease. In fact, this type of diabetes should be considered in the uppermost degree as one of the number one killers of teens today in America. When blood sugar levels remain too high for a long period of time in the body, it can cause blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stoke, and the most irreversible result, death. Research has proven that each year more than 13, 000 children are diagnosed with type one diabetes. There are even cases in which teens have been diagnosed with type two diabetes, which is a disease commonly found in people over the age of forty.

Moreover, children who are obese and have a family history of type two diabetes are particularly at high risk to generate the disease diabetes, especially children of African American origin. Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the body does not make or properly use insulin, a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches, and other food into energy. People with diabetes have increased blood glucose or sugar levels due to a lack of insulin, insufficient insulin, or resistance's to insulin's effects. High levels of glucose build up in eh blood and spill into the urine and out of the body. This chain effect, as a result, causes the body to loose its main source of energy.
