John Middleton could soon become the first person in nearly three years to be executed in Missouri.

The Missouri Supreme Court set an execution date of July 30 for Middleton. He was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in the June 1995 deaths of Randy Hamilton and Stacey Hodge in northern Missouri's Mercer County, the attorney general's office said.
