"The San Francisco Peaks are one of six mountains that figure prominently and integral to Navajo healing," [Robert Tohe] said. "The peaks are significant, culturally and spiritually to the Navajo way of life."

Questioned by Navajo Klee Benally, a protester, about the case at a recent signing of [Bruce Babbitt]'s newest book "Cities in the Wilderness: A New Vision of Land Use in America" in Tempe, Babbitt declined to discuss his involvement with Snowbowl.

"I'm an old-fashioned lawyer," he said. "I don't comment on court cases outside of the courtroom." Babbitt, said Benally, "is betraying Native Americans."
