Japanese Bankers View Community Banking Up Close

The best way to learn about community banking is to talk to community bankers. Sometimes, that means hitting the streets and visiting neighborhoods those banks serve. That is what about 20 Japanese bankers did on July 6 when they visited three Minneapolis-area community banks to learn how those institutions succeed in an increasingly competitive market. What the delegation learned was that knowing your neighborhood and offering good customer service helps a community bank find and build business. The Japanese group visited Franklin Bank, Northeast Bank and Bremer Bank's St. Anthony branch on the local tour coordinated by the Independent Community Bankers of Minnesota. From Minneapolis, the group visited banks in Boston and New York City. The delegation represented the Banshu Shinkin Bank and Tajima Shinkin Bank, considered community banks in Japan, and were from the cities of Kamigori, Funahashi and Akshi, said ICBM spokesman Doug Krukowski
