You don't need to be my age to remember when more of our population lived in rural areas, miles from a good shopping area, and without all of the wonderful communication and transportation conveniences we enjoy today.
Instead of flooding the TV with advertisements, some of the ads walked up to the door in the form of salesmen, peddlers and hucksters. They offered tea and coffee, medicines like cloverine salve and, I believe, Carters little liver pills. There were magazines and books, pots and pans and, of course, insurance.
