Tractors throwing up rooster tails of dust in fields are a fairly common sight lately as farmers push to finish spring planting.

The dust is bad news. The National Weather Service puts rainfall for the season at 4.98 inches -- nearly 5 1/2 inches below normal -- but the half-inch predicted for Friday and Saturday will be enough to get seed off to a good start.
