Summary


As an individual from Ain Ebel, I know for a fact that the village and its inhabitants suffered tremendously during the recent month-long war. Not one single house was spared Israel's wrath. Even the historic churches and the convent were hit, proving that Israel does not distinguish between Muslim and Christian Lebanese. Believing that Ain Ebel would be safer, the people of Aïitaroun and Aïnata (both Shi'a villages) fled to their fellow countrymen in Ain Ebel. They were welcomed into the schools and houses of the village, proving to the world that the Lebanese are one people. When the shelling intensified in Ain Ebel, the people, natives and refugees, fled to Rmeich, another Christian village, which opened its homes and schools to other neighboring villages, especially the Shi'a village of Aïta Shaab. After 16 days of resisting the Israeli shelling and siege, the people finally fled to Beirut. Other Christian villages such as Debel and Qaouzah were also severely damaged. Why was this generosity and brotherly solidarity among the Lebanese not mentioned in his article?
