The United States global objectives are democracy, prosperity stability, security, and peace and ultimately this leads to encouraging and supporting democratic nations and those who are attempting to achieve democracy. Recently transitioned democratic governments such as those in Iraq and Afghanistan have demonstrated the benefits of democracy as well as showing that these benefits are lost when democracy is imposed rather than chosen and achieved (Harries, 2003).
