A communication gap commonly exists between CEOs and their information technology (IT) personnel. Chief executives often do not understand the technical and specific information that the IT department provides them, thus they run the risk of investing in technology that their organizations do not really need. In addition, their failure to comprehend the significance of IT issues could result in missed opportunities. Although CEOs are not expected to be as well versed with technology as the members of the IT staff, they must at least try to gain basic knowledge of the technology that their firms will invest in.
