After five years of effort, the state is able to handle a mass-decontamination incident, says Diane Anderson, director of emergency preparedness at the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA). "We have a mobile command center that we would set up to communicate with the hospitals and the state during an emergency," she says. In addition, all 83 acute-care hospitals and 21 counties in the state have some type of decontamination equipment and know what to do in a disaster, she says.
