Housing Forums Yield More Skepticism Than Success

The recently formed "nonprofit" partnership is actually made up of business, government, and community organizations, all of which are already involved in the housing industry in one way or another. At each of the forums, terms like "affordable" and "moderate" were used to describe the area's goals and housing needs.

"I do not, and never have lobbied for any developers or anyone else, and this is something I'm doing because it's needed and it is the proper course of action as well," explained [Chris Smith]. "I sponsored this same bill during last year's session and it has no connection to anything Commissioner [Josephus Eggelletion] may, or may not be involved in," he said. Smith also said his bill contains mandatory requirements that the majority of the funds must go to single-family home purchases and rehabilitation program, not the multi-family rental units commonly coveted most by developers.
