Summary
Once you've settled on where you want your office to be, it's time to think about design and equipment. Katherine Bloodworth, an interior designer at Sunrise Home in San Rafael, suggests assessing how much paper you'll generate, how much file-drawer space you'll need and how much actual desktop working room you'll use. "Depending on what profession you're in," she says, "that can vary dramatically. If you're an accountant and you produce a lot of paper, you're going to need more file drawers than someone who's a graphic designer. So the function is really key."
Scandinavian Designs in San Rafael offers the latest in office seating--the "Soper" by Via ($499) that features a hydraulic spring to allow the chair to move with you. "It actually looks like a stool and doesn't have a back," explains Tom Savreau of Scandinavian Designs. "It holds you in a perfect posture, with your feet on the floor, so you never stress or pull your muscles reaching for things." It's only been out for a month, but already is very popular. Savreau was convinced the "Soper" was a winner when one of his customers, a yoga instructor who doesn't use conventional chairs, loved it."It's important not be locked into that office mentality of constantly sitting at the desk." says Bloodworth. "Your creative juices flow much better when you're not just sitting in a chair all day." Creating a work area that invites you to move around, enjoy an outdoor view or switch gears by reclining in a relaxing corner is ideal. "Looking busy" can take on a whole new meaning when you're the one making the rules.See the full content of this document
