Enough young people experience trauma that companies have to deal with employees in adult bodies who are psychologically and emotionally adolescents, says Larry Liberty, PhD, president of The Liberty Consulting Team, Carmichael, CA. Liberty's model defines four types of employees: 1. low-functioning adolescents, 2. high-functioning adolescents, 3. young adults in training, and 4. wise adults. These people live their values and vision, Liberty said. They have a life purpose, love authentic relationships, make mistakes once, contribute through service, get extraordinary results, and like being anonymous. People who might fit in this category include Warren Buffet, Colin Powell and Mother Teresa. The primary challenge for companies is to attract, maintain and keep a psychologically and emotionally mature staff, Liberty emphasized. A second challenge is to find the adolescents, grow those who can and will grow through coaching and mentoring, and get rid of those who won't.
