"We are asking the U.S. government to give the Haitians the same rights that they afford the refugees of other nations, Temporary Protected Status (TPS)," said Marleine Bastien, director of the Haitian Women of Miami. "All refugees should be given a fair interview."

"It's not fair to exclude Haitians," said Lava Rice of Veye Yo, a Haitian rights group in Miami. "They deserve it because Haiti has suffered so much with its government and with the natural disasters."

"For some reason Haitians are the hated membesr of society and people want to keep us out," said Pierre Baptiste, a North Miami resident who migrated to Florida in 1988. "We are the undesirables."
