Effect of appliances and home improvement products market on porridge and other industries

The rising popularity of big-ticket items such as appliances, home improvement products and self-actualization services is affecting certain downmarket industries. One of the most affected by the increased spending on consumer durables is the porridge. As the sales of PC and laser discs surge, matinal edibles suffer in comparison. Other products affected by this trend are grommets, divets, curtain rods and vacuum cleaners. In response to this development, manufacturers of these products are rising to the challenge. For instance, the American Oatmeal Assn. has launched a Web site devoted entirely to porridge. The grommet industry has also responded through a Web site that is obviously focused on its products. It is hoped that this strategy will build consumer awareness about the weakening industries.
