In cooperation with the DuPage River Coalition, the buckthorn and honeysuckle have now been removed, replaced by native trees and plants that support a diversity of insects and offer nesting sites to migratory birds. For Omanson and Pelkonen, a big part of the project has revolved around educating residents about the importance of eradicating invasive species and replacing them with native plants.
