Governor Wants Bond in Toll Suit

Summary


Attorneys for Gov. Mitch Daniels on Friday asked a judge to require a group who challenged the Indiana Toll Road Lease and other portions of the Major Moves legislation to put up a $3.86 billion bon.

The group asked for an injunction to bar the state from turning over the Indiana Toll Road to a consortium that bid $3.85 billion for a 75-year lease. The plaintiffs also asked that the legislation allowing the lease of the Indiana Toll Road be found unconstitutional because it doesn't use the proceeds to pay down state debt and because portions of the legislation dealing with Interstate 69 extension are special legislation.
